Over the past year, I’ve been speaking about the importance of building a solid business foundation—and I’m not just saying that because it sounds good. I’ve lived the results of not having one, and I’ve seen what happens when businesses operate without structure. Things fall through the cracks. You become stagnant. You plateau because you simply don’t have the systems in place to support your next level.

Let me be real with you—it really doesn’t take me long to walk into someone’s office and know if things are out of order. Give me 15 minutes and I can tell you if the structure is missing, if operations are chaotic, or if someone’s just trying to make it look good on the outside while it’s a mess behind the scenes.

And funny enough, that happened recently. My youngest started culinary school, and on enrollment day she asked me to go with her to see where she’d be attending school. Of course, I went. I was proud, I met the team, saw the space… and as we left, I turned to her and said, “This place is not organized.” I didn’t say it to be harsh—it just wasn’t. And I knew eventually it would show.

Well, fast forward a few weeks, and she came home saying, “Mom, you were right. This place is not organized at all.”

That’s how it works. The cracks always show….and the same is true for your business.

If your operations are inconsistent, if there’s no structure to your processes, if you’re storing client info in three different places and your team’s doing things ten different ways—it will catch up with you.

This is why SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) matter. They’re not just corporate buzzwords. They are your business’s instruction manual. They help you scale, train, delegate, and grow with ease and clarity.

And if you’re thinking, “Well, Stacey, I’m just starting,” let me tell you this: This is the perfect time.
And if you’ve been in business a few years? It’s still the perfect time.

Yes, it might take a little more effort to go back and restructure while you’re also running your business, but that work will give you a peace of mind.
